‘Ordinary’ trauma and loss are part of life and psychopathology. Massive psychic trauma (eg sexual violence) has distinct and special effects, not only on victims, but via transmission to future generations. The workshop will use clinical material to demonstrate such effects and treatment and also invite the participants to discuss their case material.
 
Programme
10.00am to 11.00am: (RLB) Introduction: “Ways of defining trauma and its effects and the significance of loss”. Clinical demonstration.
Coffee
11.20am to 12.45pm: (BRB) “The Holocaust and Massive Psychic Trauma: First and Second Generation effects”.
Lunch
2.00pm to 3.00pm: (RLB) ‘The “Unthinkable” and the “Unspeakable” in the aftermath of trauma and in clinical practice’.
Tea
4.00pm to 5.00pm: Presentation of Clinical Material from members of the Workshop
